Four simple tips to get your kid ready for a photo session

The question that comes up quite often is how to prepare my child for a photo session?

Of course it depends on the child, but here are some general guidelines:

  1. Make sure your child is fed prior to the session. A fed child is a happy child and happier children take better photos.
  2. Your child shouldn't eat in the clothes he or she is to be photographed in. I've had many children come in with soiled shirts. I'm happy to clean these up at no additional charge, but a clean shirt looks better than an edited dirty shirt.
  3. Allow plenty of time to get ready. Children deal with situations differently. Some need a few minutes to get acclimated to the studio before they are comfortable in front of the camera. Others are ready to strike a pose right away. However, allow plenty of time to get ready before showing up, which includes a good night's rest.
  4. Have fun! My job is to make you and your family look good. Let me worry about that. Enjoy the experience with your kids and your kids will reflect that enjoyment in the photos.
